What is National Car Keys ZA?

South Africa's mobile car key replacement specialist for Jaguar, Range Rover, Land Rover, Porsche, and Volvo. Insurance Approved, OEM-level programming, nationwide at a fraction of dealership cost.

How much does a Range Rover key replacement cost in South Africa?

Range Rover key replacement typically costs between R3,500 and R8,500 depending on the model and year. Smart keys with proximity entry cost more than standard transponder keys. We're typically 50-60% cheaper than a dealership with same-day mobile service.

I've lost all my car keys — can you help without any spare?

Yes! If you've lost all keys, we generate brand new ones from scratch using your vehicle's VIN and OEM-level diagnostics. No original key needed, no towing to a dealership. We come to your location and programme new keys on-site.

My Range Rover says 'Smart Key Not Found' — what do I do?

This usually indicates a failing KVM (Keyless Vehicle Module), not a dead key battery. Common on 2013-2018 Range Rover models. We diagnose and repair KVM faults on-site with JLR SDD diagnostics — often without needing a full module replacement.

Do you come to my location?

Yes — our service is 100% mobile. We come to your home, office, or roadside location anywhere in South Africa with all equipment needed. Same-day service in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, and Pretoria.

How long does it take to get a replacement car key?

Most key replacements take 30-60 minutes on-site. All-keys-lost situations may take up to 90 minutes. We come to your location with all equipment — no towing, no dealership queues.

Can you fix a KVM (Keyless Vehicle Module) on my Jaguar or Land Rover?

Yes — KVM module failure is one of our most common repairs. We diagnose the fault on-site with JLR SDD diagnostics and can often repair or reset the module without a full replacement. Common on 2013-2018 JLR models.

Which vehicle brands do you service?

We specialise exclusively in premium European vehicles: Jaguar, Range Rover, Land Rover, and Porsche. Our technicians carry brand-specific diagnostic equipment and OEM-spec key blanks for every model.

Is your key replacement cheaper than going to a dealership?

Yes — typically 50-60% cheaper than dealership prices. We use the same OEM-spec key blanks and factory-level programming equipment. The difference is overhead: we don't have a showroom to maintain, so we pass the saving to you.

What is a KVM and why does it fail on Range Rovers?

KVM (Keyless Vehicle Module) is the electronic module that communicates with your smart key. It fails due to moisture ingress, voltage spikes, or component degradation. Common on 2013-2018 Range Rover and Land Rover models. Symptoms include 'Smart Key Not Found' errors.

What if my key breaks in the ignition?

We safely extract broken key fragments without damaging your ignition barrel, then cut and programme a replacement key on-site. Don't try to force a broken key out — it can damage the lock mechanism.

Can you program a Porsche key?

Yes — we program keys for all Porsche models using PIWIS-compatible diagnostic equipment. Porsche key programming is among the most complex, and we have the specialist tools and expertise needed.

Do you service vehicles outside major cities in South Africa?

Yes — we provide nationwide mobile service. Travel fees may apply for remote locations outside major metropolitan areas. Contact us with your location and we'll confirm availability and pricing.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept credit cards, debit cards, EFT, and cash (for amounts under R5,000). All prices are in South African Rand (ZAR) and include VAT where applicable. Payment is due upon completion of service.

Are your replacement keys as good as the original?

Yes — we use OEM-specification key blanks and the same factory-level programming equipment as dealerships. Every key meets original factory specifications. 12-month warranty included, and all work is insurance-approved.

Can you help if my Porsche has a steering lock / ELV fault?

Yes — Porsche ELV (Electronic Steering Lock) faults are common on Cayenne and Macan models from 2011-2017. When the ELV fails, the car won't start. We diagnose and repair ELV faults on-site using PIWIS-compatible diagnostics.

What should I do if I'm locked out of my car right now?

Call us immediately. We prioritise emergency lockout calls and can dispatch a technician to your location. We provide same-day emergency service across all major South African metros. Don't try to break in — it can damage your vehicle.

Can a locksmith make a car key from the VIN number in South Africa?

Yes — we use your vehicle's VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) to identify the exact key profile and programming code. This allows us to generate brand-new keys even when all original keys are lost. Your VIN is on the licence disc (the paper disc on your windscreen) or the driver's side door jamb.

What is the difference between a transponder key and a smart key?

A transponder key has a chip embedded in the key head that talks to your car's immobiliser — it still needs to be inserted into the ignition. A smart key (proximity key or keyless fob) lets you unlock and start the car without taking the key out of your pocket. Smart keys are more complex and cost more to replace. We programme both types.

Can I program a car key myself?

In most modern vehicles — especially Jaguar, Range Rover, Land Rover and Porsche — key programming requires proprietary diagnostic software (JLR SDD, PIWIS) that isn't available to the public. DIY programming isn't possible for these premium brands. We carry all the specialist equipment and programme keys on-site.

Does car insurance cover lost car keys in South Africa?

Some South African insurance policies cover lost or stolen car keys, but it depends on your specific policy. We provide insurance-approved documentation with every replacement, which you can submit to your insurer for a claim. Check your policy or contact your insurer directly to confirm.

Can I get a spare car key made before I lose my only key?

Yes, and it's strongly recommended. A spare key costs less than an 'all keys lost' replacement and avoids the stress and higher cost of generating keys from the VIN. We cut and programme spare keys on-site at your home or office. See our spare key service page for details.

How do I replace the battery in my car key fob?

We have step-by-step DIY battery replacement guides for Jaguar, Range Rover, Land Rover and Porsche key fobs in our How-To section. Each guide covers the correct battery type, how to open the fob safely, and re-synchronising the key afterward. If your fob still doesn't work after a battery change, we can diagnose and fix it on-site.

How much does a Jaguar key replacement cost in South Africa?

Jaguar key replacement in South Africa ranges from R4,000 to R7,500 depending on the model (XE, XF, F-Pace, F-Type, XJ) and year. All keys are cut and programmed on-site with OEM-spec equipment. We're typically 50-60% cheaper than a dealership.

How much does a Porsche key replacement cost in South Africa?

Porsche key replacement in South Africa costs between R5,000 and R8,500 depending on the model (Cayenne, Macan, Panamera, 911, Taycan) and key type. Porsche programming is among the most complex and requires PIWIS-compatible diagnostic equipment, which we carry.

What is key cloning and do you offer it?

Key cloning copies the data from an existing working key onto a new key blank, creating a duplicate. It's faster and cheaper than full programming but only works when you already have a functioning key. We offer key cloning for compatible models — ask us whether your vehicle qualifies.

Why is car key replacement so expensive?

Modern car keys aren't just metal — they contain microchips, encrypted transponders, and sometimes proximity sensors and push-button start electronics. Each key must be cut to match your ignition AND electronically paired to your car's immobiliser using specialist diagnostic software. For premium European brands, the software alone (JLR SDD, PIWIS) costs tens of thousands of rand. We keep costs down by being mobile and specialist.

Can you make a key for a car that's been standing unused for years?

Yes, in most cases. As long as we can access the VIN and the vehicle's immobiliser and ECU are intact, we can generate new keys even for vehicles that have been parked for extended periods. If the battery is flat, we can usually power the OBD port to programme the key. Contact us with your vehicle details.

2020 Jaguar XE Key Replacement Process & Programming Steps

1
Verify Ownership & Access Jaguar XE Systems
We confirm vehicle ownership (registration document or ID), then connect our JLR SDD-compatible equipment to your 2020 Jaguar XE's OBD port to access the immobiliser and KVM module.
2
Generate Key Code from VIN
Using your vehicle's VIN, we generate the correct key code for your 2020 XE. For all-keys-lost situations, this is how we create a new proximity smart key with updated InControl system from scratch — no original key needed.
3
Cut the Key Blade On-Site
We cut the key blade to factory specification using precision key-cutting equipment in our service vehicle. For the Jaguar XE, the blade profile must match the door and ignition barrel exactly.
4
Programme Transponder & Smart Key
The transponder chip and remote/smart key functions are programmed directly to your 2020 Jaguar XE's immobiliser using JLR SDD. This includes central locking, keyless entry (if equipped), and push-button start synchronisation.
5
Full System Diagnostic Test
Before we leave, we run a complete diagnostic scan on your Jaguar XE to verify the key is fully functional — lock, unlock, boot release, push-button start, and immobiliser recognition all confirmed working.
