How To Change The Keyfob Battery For A Land Rover Discovery 5 (2018–2024)
The 2018–2024 Land Rover Discovery 5 (L462) uses the updated JLR InControl proximity smart key. Follow these steps to replace the battery at home.

What You'll Need
- The keyfob itself
- Flat screwdriver or emergency blade
- New CR2032 battery
Step-by-Step Instructions
Remove the emergency blade
Press the release button and slide the metal emergency key blade out completely.
Locate the seam gap
With the blade out, find the thin gap in the seam of the keyfob near the blade slot.
Open the casing
Insert the flat edge of the emergency blade into the gap and twist gently to start separating the two halves. Work slowly around the seam.
Remove the battery
Lift the CR2032 battery from its tray using your fingernail. Avoid touching the circuit board components.
Fit the new battery
Insert the new CR2032 with the positive (+) side facing UP. Press firmly until it sits flat.
Close the keyfob
Press the two halves back together firmly around the entire seam until the clips all click into place.
Reinsert the blade and test
Slide the emergency blade back in and confirm all buttons are working.
Pro Tip
After replacing the battery, press the unlock button while standing close to the car. If it doesn't respond immediately, try pressing the button 2–3 times to re-establish the radio frequency link.
Key Still Not Working?
If a fresh battery doesn't fix the issue, the problem is likely the vehicle's KVM module, a de-synced transponder, or a faulty key — not the battery. We diagnose and fix this on-site, same day.
