How To Change The Keyfob Battery For A Porsche 911 (2012–2024)
The Porsche 911 (991/992, 2012–2024) uses the bladeless KESSY smart key. Replacing the CR2032 battery takes under 5 minutes using the built-in emergency key.

What You'll Need
- The keyfob itself
- The built-in emergency key
- New CR2032 battery
Step-by-Step Instructions
Remove the emergency key
Press the release button on the back of the keyfob and pull the emergency key out completely.
Lever off the battery cover
Insert the tip of the emergency key into the slot on the back of the fob. Twist gently to pop off the battery compartment cover.
Remove the old battery
Lift the CR2032 battery out carefully, noting that the positive (+) side faces up.
Insert the new battery
Place the new CR2032 in with the positive (+) side facing UP. Press until it seats flat.
Refit the cover and emergency key
Press the battery cover back on until it clicks. Slide the emergency key back in and test all buttons.
Pro Tip
The 911's KESSY keyfob is the same design used across the Porsche range — same CR2032 battery, same opening procedure as the Cayenne and Macan.
Key Still Not Working?
If a fresh battery doesn't fix the issue, the problem is likely the vehicle's KVM module, a de-synced transponder, or a faulty key — not the battery. We diagnose and fix this on-site, same day.
