How To Change The Keyfob Battery For A Porsche Cayenne (2011–2024)
The Porsche Cayenne (958/9Y0, 2011–2024) uses a bladeless KESSY proximity smart key with a CR2032 battery. The emergency key doubles as the opening tool — here's how to swap the battery in under 5 minutes.

What You'll Need
- The keyfob itself
- The built-in emergency key
- New CR2032 battery
Step-by-Step Instructions
Remove the emergency key
Press the small release button on the back of the keyfob and pull the emergency key out completely. The emergency key is a flat tool that slides out of the fob.
Locate the battery cover slot
On the back of the keyfob, you'll see a small slot where the emergency key was stored. This slot is used to lever off the battery compartment cover.
Lever off the battery cover
Insert the tip of the emergency key into the slot on the back of the fob. Twist gently to lever off the battery compartment cover. It should pop off without much force — do not pry with metal tools.
Remove the old battery
The CR2032 battery is now exposed. Lift it out carefully with your fingernail. Note the orientation — the positive (+) side faces up.
Insert the new battery
Place the new CR2032 battery in the compartment with the positive (+) side facing UP. Press it down gently until it seats flat and securely.
Refit the battery cover
Place the battery compartment cover back onto the fob and press it down firmly until it clicks into place. Ensure there are no gaps around the edge.
Reinsert the emergency key
Slide the emergency key back into the fob until it clicks. Test the Lock, Unlock and Boot buttons to confirm the new battery is working.
Pro Tip
Porsche KESSY keys have no external blade — the emergency key is a small flat tool hidden inside the fob. Keep it accessible; you'll need it every time you change the battery.
Key Still Not Working?
If a fresh battery doesn't fix the issue, the problem is likely the vehicle's KVM module, a de-synced transponder, or a faulty key — not the battery. We diagnose and fix this on-site, same day.
