How To Change The Keyfob Battery For A Porsche Taycan (2020–2024)
The Porsche Taycan (J1, 2020–2024) uses the latest-generation bladeless KESSY EV smart key with encrypted security. The CR2032 battery is replaced using the built-in emergency key.

What You'll Need
- The keyfob itself
- The built-in emergency key
- New CR2032 battery
Step-by-Step Instructions
Remove the emergency key
Press the release button on the back of the keyfob and pull the emergency key out completely.
Open the battery compartment
Insert the tip of the emergency key into the slot on the back of the fob and twist gently to lever off the battery cover.
Replace the battery
Lift out the old CR2032. Insert the new CR2032 with the positive (+) side facing UP. Press until it sits flat.
Refit the cover and test
Press the battery cover back on until it clicks. Reinsert the emergency key and test the Lock, Unlock and Boot buttons.
Pro Tip
As an EV, the Taycan's keyfob maintains a constant proximity connection when near the vehicle. Store the key more than 5 metres from the car to maximise battery life.
Key Still Not Working?
If a fresh battery doesn't fix the issue, the problem is likely the vehicle's KVM module, a de-synced transponder, or a faulty key — not the battery. We diagnose and fix this on-site, same day.
