How To Change The Keyfob Battery For A Range Rover Sport (2018–2024)
The 2018–2024 Range Rover Sport (L494) uses the updated InControl proximity smart key. Follow these steps to replace the battery at home.

What You'll Need
- The keyfob itself
- Flat screwdriver or emergency blade
- New CR2032 battery
Step-by-Step Instructions
Remove the emergency blade
Press the release slider on the keyfob body and slide the metal emergency key blade out.
Find the opening gap
With the blade removed, inspect the narrow edge of the keyfob for a small gap or slot near where the blade was stored.
Carefully open the keyfob
Insert the flat edge of the emergency blade into the gap and twist gently. Work around the seam if needed — the plastic clips open without much force.
Remove the old battery
The CR2032 battery sits in a flat compartment. Lift it out carefully with your fingernail, avoiding the circuit board.
Insert the new battery
Place the new CR2032 battery in with the positive (+) side facing UP. Press until it sits flat and secure.
Reassemble the keyfob
Align both halves and press them together firmly around the seam until all the clips click back into place.
Reinsert the emergency blade
Slide the blade back in until it locks. Test all buttons to confirm the replacement was successful.
Pro Tip
After battery replacement, the Range Rover Sport may take 1–2 presses of the unlock button before the car responds — this is normal as the remote re-syncs.
Key Still Not Working?
If a fresh battery doesn't fix the issue, the problem is likely the vehicle's KVM module, a de-synced transponder, or a faulty key — not the battery. We diagnose and fix this on-site, same day.
