How To Change The Keyfob Battery For A Jaguar XE (2015–2019)
The 2015–2019 Jaguar XE (X760) uses the first-generation JLR proximity smart key. Replacing the CR2032 battery takes just a few minutes.

Important Note
If your dashboard shows 'Smart Key Not Found' after a battery change on a 2015–2018 XE, this may indicate a KVM (Key Vehicle Module) fault rather than a dead battery — a known issue on these models.
What You'll Need
- The keyfob itself
- Flat screwdriver or coin
- New CR2032 battery
Step-by-Step Instructions
Remove the emergency blade
Press the release tab on the bottom of the keyfob and slide the metal emergency key blade out.
Find the seam gap
With the blade removed, inspect the narrow edge for a small gap near the blade slot — this is your entry point.
Open the casing
Insert the flat edge of the emergency blade or a coin into the gap and twist gently. Work around the seam slowly to unclip the two halves.
Remove the old battery
Lift the CR2032 out with your fingernail, avoiding the circuit board components.
Insert the new battery
Place the new CR2032 in with the positive (+) side facing UP. Press until it seats flat.
Close the keyfob
Press the two halves together firmly until all clips engage and there are no gaps.
Reinsert the blade and test
Slide the emergency blade back in until it locks. Press any button to confirm the battery is active.
Pro Tip
Early XE models (2015–2017) are known for 'Key Not Detected' warnings that can stem from the KVM module rather than the battery. If a fresh battery doesn't clear the warning, contact us for a free diagnosis.
Key Still Not Working?
If a fresh battery doesn't fix the issue, the problem is likely the vehicle's KVM module, a de-synced transponder, or a faulty key — not the battery. We diagnose and fix this on-site, same day.
