How To Change The Keyfob Battery For A Jaguar XJ (2010–2019)
The Jaguar XJ (X351, 2010–2019) uses the standard JLR proximity smart key. Battery replacement is straightforward — no special tools needed.

What You'll Need
- The keyfob itself
- Flat screwdriver or coin
- New CR2032 battery
Step-by-Step Instructions
Slide out the emergency blade
Press the release button on the side of the fob and slide the metal emergency key blade out completely.
Open the keyfob
Insert the flat edge of the emergency blade or a coin into the seam gap near the blade slot. Twist gently to begin separating the two halves.
Remove the old battery
Lift the CR2032 battery out with your fingernail or the edge of the blade. Avoid touching the circuit board.
Insert the new battery
Place the new CR2032 in with the positive (+) side facing UP. Press until it sits flat and secure.
Reassemble the keyfob
Align the two halves and press them together firmly until all clips click into place with no gaps.
Reinsert the blade and test
Slide the emergency blade back in until it locks. Test all buttons to confirm the new battery is working.
Pro Tip
The XJ's keyfob shares the same CR2032 battery and opening procedure as the XF and XE — one battery type fits the whole Jaguar range.
Key Still Not Working?
If a fresh battery doesn't fix the issue, the problem is likely the vehicle's KVM module, a de-synced transponder, or a faulty key — not the battery. We diagnose and fix this on-site, same day.
