How To Change The Keyfob Battery For A Jaguar XK (2006–2014)
The Jaguar XK (X150, 2006–2014) uses an earlier-generation JLR smart key. The CR2032 battery is easy to replace with just a coin or small screwdriver.

What You'll Need
- The keyfob itself
- Small flat screwdriver or coin
- New CR2032 battery
Step-by-Step Instructions
Remove the emergency blade
Press the release tab on the keyfob and slide out the metal emergency blade.
Locate the seam
Examine the edge of the keyfob for the thin gap where the two halves meet, usually most visible near the blade slot.
Prise open the casing
Insert a coin or small flat screwdriver into the seam gap and twist gently to separate the two halves. Work slowly — do not force the plastic clips.
Remove the old battery
Lift out the CR2032 battery. Note which way the + side was facing before removal.
Insert the new battery
Place the new CR2032 in with the positive (+) side facing UP. Press gently until it sits flat.
Close and test
Press both halves back together until all clips engage. Reinsert the blade and test the buttons.
Pro Tip
The XK is an older Jaguar model — if you're still using the original key, consider having the transponder chip checked, as these can degrade over 15+ years.
Key Still Not Working?
If a fresh battery doesn't fix the issue, the problem is likely the vehicle's KVM module, a de-synced transponder, or a faulty key — not the battery. We diagnose and fix this on-site, same day.
