How To Change The Keyfob Battery For A Land Rover Defender 90 (2020–2024)
The new Land Rover Defender 90 (L663, 2020–2024) uses the same JLR InControl smart key as the Defender 110. Battery replacement is identical and takes about 3 minutes.

What You'll Need
- The keyfob itself
- Flat screwdriver or emergency blade
- New CR2032 battery
Step-by-Step Instructions
Remove the emergency blade
Press the release button and slide the metal emergency key blade out completely.
Open the casing
Insert the flat edge of the emergency blade into the seam gap and twist gently to separate the two halves.
Replace the battery
Lift out the old CR2032 and insert the new one with the positive (+) side facing UP. Press until it seats flat.
Close and test
Snap the two halves shut firmly, reinsert the blade, and test all buttons.
Pro Tip
Both the Defender 90 and 110 share the exact same keyfob — one CR2032 battery type covers both wheelbase models.
Key Still Not Working?
If a fresh battery doesn't fix the issue, the problem is likely the vehicle's KVM module, a de-synced transponder, or a faulty key — not the battery. We diagnose and fix this on-site, same day.
