How To Change The Keyfob Battery For A Land Rover Freelander (2006–2014)
The Land Rover Freelander 2 (L359, 2006–2014) uses a 3-button JLR flip remote key. Replacing the CR2032 battery is a straightforward DIY job.

What You'll Need
- The keyfob itself
- Small flat screwdriver or coin
- New CR2032 battery
Step-by-Step Instructions
Remove the emergency blade
Press the release button on the keyfob and slide out the metal emergency blade.
Locate the seam gap
Examine the edge of the keyfob for the thin gap where the two halves meet.
Open the casing
Insert a small flat screwdriver or coin into the seam gap and twist gently to separate the two halves. Work slowly to avoid cracking the plastic.
Remove the old battery
Lift the CR2032 battery out with your fingernail. Avoid touching the circuit board.
Insert the new battery
Place the new CR2032 in with the positive (+) side facing UP. Press until it seats flat.
Close the keyfob
Press the two halves together firmly until all clips engage and no gaps remain.
Reinsert the blade and test
Slide the emergency blade back in and test all buttons.
Pro Tip
The Freelander 2 keyfob uses the same CR2032 battery as the Discovery 4 — both share the earlier JLR 3-button remote design.
Key Still Not Working?
If a fresh battery doesn't fix the issue, the problem is likely the vehicle's KVM module, a de-synced transponder, or a faulty key — not the battery. We diagnose and fix this on-site, same day.
